When SIX: The Musical comes to the Twin Cities, it comes to the Ordway in Saint Paul. In celebration of the show’s third run in this venue, the Ordway decided to theme its annual fundraising gala around the glitz and glamour of the hit Broadway musical. I crafted a visual identity for the event based on the musical’s iconic purple-and-gold color scheme, the circular geometry often found in Tudor gardens, and old-style ornaments that would transport you to the world of Henry VIII’s six wives.
What had started out as vector files on my computer screen became larger than life projections, installations, and photo ops thanks to the work of the Ordway staff and our contracted partners. Directing the design of large-scale events like the Ordway Royal Garden Gala never ceases to blow me away when we finally get to the big day, when I get to see the graphics I labored over finally come to life for the biggest party of the season.
